Tweeps Calls For DStv To Retire Somizi Mhlongo Already

A heated debate has erupted on Twitter, with many users urging DStv to retire media personality Somizi Mhlongo immediately. Tweeps are more concerned about young and talented people who are being denied opportunities than they are about Somizi Mhlongo.

Chris Excel, the controversial Twitter user, has thrown a bone to his fellow tweeps regarding Somizi Mhlongo, who would still book more gigs with DStv even after turning fifty. Mhlongo currently has a long list of DStv commitments, including a number of his own shows and SA Idols.

Chris Excel’s outraged comes from an observation where he has pointed out that young and talented people are still waiting for opportunities and their breakthrough, while the likes of Somizi Mhlongo have their finger in every pie.

“Next year Somizi is turning 50 years!! DSTV will be still giving him all the gigs and shows while young talented are still waiting for opportunities..” wrote Chris Excel

Whether Chris Excel’s view point screams ageism, some tweeps are less concerned about Somizi Mhlongo’s age but talent. Evidently, Mhlongo has a very strong and dedicated fan-base which has stuck by him through some of the challenging times of his career.

Mhlongo’s fans and supporters did not stand by the wall and let Chris Excel’s jabs stick, as they came guns blazing to defend Mhlongo on his talent and being an overzealous individual.

“And no one is complaining when Apple play gives will Smith new movie roles at 51. The fact that they see talent in him and it works for thier brand why should they change him. Are we saying he must staff Ena. Young talent should build a better brand they will be recognized” wrote Vuisile Motholo

“Y’all are just haters , Somizi is a great entertainer and apart from that DSTV ke yage” wrote Princess Kokie

Another tweeps compliment laced with sarcasm towards Mhlongo mentioned that seasoned TV personalities like Mhlongo are easier to work things than inexperienced young and yet talented individuals.

“Dealing with finished products like Somizi is easier than having to groom new talent. Young talent should work 10 times to prove themselves, so that they will be appetizing to these channels. We have social media now that as young talent should take advantage of and be seen” wrote Mtimande
