Social media users have gone through the archives to resurface a photo of DJ Maphorisa and Orlando Pirates footballer Thembinkosi Lorch, who are both labeled as abusers.
Lorch was convicted guilty of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm to his ex-lover, Nokuphiwa Mathithibala, by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
The verdict was delivered on Tuesday, June 6, and the footballer will be punished on July 23.
Lorch was arrested on September 7, 2020, and was granted R2 000 in instant bail.
According to the charge sheet, Mathithibala paid Lorch a visit at his Midrand home before leaving her alone and going out with friends.
Upon aarrival, an argument ensued, resulting in the soccer star assaulting and strangling Mathithibala.
Last month, musician and producer DJ Maphorisa – real name Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe – was granted R4 000 bail in the assault case levelled against him by his girlfriend Thuli Phongolo. This came after the actress filed a withdrawal statement a day after she opened the case.
Thuli alleged that Maphorisa started beating her up after she confronted him about an argument they had had during his gig the night before. The former Generations: The Legacy actress reportedly sustained bruises on her neck, chest, arms, and right cheek.
The case was postponed to 14 June for further investigation.
A week after the incident the couple released a joint statement in which they said they would deal with the matter privately.
