Minister Of Electricity – Kgosientso Sputla Ramokgopa’s Young Wife

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced this week that Kgosientso “Sputla” Ramokgopa has officially taken up his position as the first Minister of Electricity.

The 48-year-old former Tshwane mayor took on the task of addressing the energy crisis and, hopefully, eliminating load shedding.

And, with his new position, his professional and personal lives have become a hot topic of discussion.

On 25 January 2015, Kgosientso married his baby mama Georgia Shekeshe in a beautiful wedding ceremony. And it was a double celebration for the now Minister of Electricity: his wedding day was also his 40th birthday!

He said of the special day: “The most beautiful woman on earth agreed to be the mother of our children and to be #MrsRamokgopa”.

Here are a few facts about the couple.

  • Kgosientso and Georgia have a 13-year age gap. They met in 2011 when Georgia was a PA to the-then Tshwane mayor. At the time, she was 23 years old.
  • When their relationship turned romantic, Georgia resigned from her post.
  • The couple had both a traditional wedding in Limpopo in 2014 and a white wedding in Paarl in 2015.
  • On her wedding day, Georgia wore a dress imported from Spain. She was also given the name Mmatabudi in accordance with Kgosientso’s Batlokwa culture.
  • The couple have a son, Matthew, who is now nine years old.
