Lynn Forbes, the mother of AKA, actual name Kiernan Forbes, has described the heartbreaking moment she had to tell his daughter Kairo Forbes of his death.
The Forbes matriarch spoke on eNCA’s News Night about the aftermath of her son’s tragic death.
AKA was shot and killed outside a Durban eatery by unknown gunmen more than two months ago. The suspects have yet to be apprehended.
Lynn Forbes spoke on how AKA’s immediate family learnt of his death in the exclusive interview.
Even more heartbreaking than Kiernan’s death was informing his daughter Kairo.
Lynn revealed that she was given the painful task, which was done the morning after his death. She said: “I told her that we have some really sad news…Your dad died”.
Kairo then asked Lynn what had happened to her famous father. Lynn continued: “I said some bad people hurt him….they shot him. She cried terribly”.
After letting the information digest, Lynn claims that Kairo asked her a devastating question.
“She asked: ‘But, he’s coming back, right? He will be ok’. And I had to tell her, ‘No, he’s not coming back, and we have to bury him.’
Lynn added that AKA’s final goodbye to Kairo was just as heartwrenching. “He said, ‘I’m going to miss you so much. I want you to know that daddy loves you’”.
In an interview with You Magazine earlier this month, Lynn revealed another heartbreaking comment from Kairo.
Sometime after AKA’s death, the family decided removing a few items from his home was best.
Lynn shared: “When we packed his things away, she [Kairo] asked me why we were putting all his awards in boxes because her daddy wouldn’t like that.
“She said, ‘We need to take them out and put them somewhere else where we can see them. You know daddy likes to show off his things, so we can’t put them away’.”
